POVERTY
Poverty is the state of economic deprivation in which individuals or families lack the financial resources to meet their basic needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, and education. Approximately 1 in 7 individuals in Canada live in poverty. Indigenous peoples, recent immigrants, and individuals with disabilities are disproportionately represented among those living in poverty. One in five children in Canada lives in poverty, with Indigenous children being overrepresented and providing financial assistance to individuals and families in need.
